Prayer Of The Week

“Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days” –Ecclesiastes 11:1

American Christians, by and large, are a luke warm commodity.  Most are stuck in life.  Either they had too much success too easily and are mired there, or they are distracted and mired under debt, concerns and self-made prisons in their minds.  But they sit there, praying for God to fix this or that but not really believing that He is powerful enough to do it.  Their unbelief IS their hindrance.  When a town did not believe in Jesus, He would only do a couple of miracles and then move on.  God is unchanging and all powerful-we know that.  Yet, when we ask Him to move powerfully in something, we ask it with a hesitancy.  It is a hesitancy brought on by mediocrity.  By self imposed prisons.

We are children of the King, yet we allow our birthright to lie idle.  Unused.  Because we don’t feel powerful.  We feel overwhelmed.  In Chapter 11 of Ecclesiastes, I think Solomon gives a glimpse of what you can do if you are stuck.  Get moving.  Just obey God in the simple things.  Cast your efforts out in all the various tasks that are right in front of you and see which one God blesses.  I fought for years to try to be something that I thought God wanted me to be and it was apparently not what He wanted at all.  But here is the key, I DID NOT FIGURE OUT WHERE GOD WANTED ME BY THINKING ABOUT IT.  I did not get clarity through prayer.  My morning quiet time and prayer was critical but the answer did not come from there.  I obeyed the Lord with the task right in front of me, writing commercial loans, and He began to bless it.  As He continued to bless it, and I continued in my morning prayer, it finally dawned on me what direction the Lord wanted me to move in.  He wanted me in sales.  One of those “duh” moments where it should have been obvious years ago.

Now I wake each day confident that I am where He wants me-for now.  But I know that after a time, He will take me higher.  I know this because I want to go higher.  And He wants me to go higher and get closer to Him.  And if He wants it done, and I am willing, it will be done.

I would wager that right in front of you, right now, is the opportunity of a lifetime.  If you are unsure of God’s Will for your life, you don’t need to figure it out right now.  You just need to simply work the tasks in front of you with all your heart and watch and see where the Lord shows up.  He will show up, it will be obvious if you stay in prayer with Him and obedient in your daily tasks as mother, father, husband, wife, business man or women, soccer coach, etc.   Do the tasks that are in front of you with all your heart, stay close to the Lord in prayer and watch to see where He is moving and join Him.  Pretty simple, actually.  Took me a while to catch on though!

Be blessed!

Brian
